On behalf of Milton Council, I want to thank the provincial government for declaring a province-wide State of Emergency to help protect the people of Ontario from COVID-19. I know this was an important decision that was not made lightly.
The State of Emergency is a critical measure to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and flatten the curve in Milton and in communities across the province. Indoor recreation facilities, public libraries, child care facilities, restaurants, bars, concert venues and theatres must close immediately and all organized public events of over 50 people are prohibited.We all must limit our social interactions and do our part to flatten the curve. I hope the province’s declaration of a State of Emergency will make it clear to residents that our individual actions in the coming days are critical to the health and safety of our community. I have the utmost confidence in our public health officials and support their advice to practice social distancing. In addition, the Town’s Crisis Management Team continues to meet daily to share information from our partners in Halton, to assess the evolution of this event and to coordinate the Town’s response.
The health and safety of residents and staff are the top priority at the Town of Milton. All facilities are closed to the public, including Town Hall. Residents can still access services online at milton.ca. Residents are encouraged to stay informed by following the Town of Milton on Twitter and Facebook, subscribing to milton.ca/coronavirusand visiting halton.ca/coronavirus regularly to get the most up-to-date information.
I want to acknowledge all of the Milton businesses and organizations that had already closed their doors to the public, based on recommendations from Halton Region Public Health. I encourage residents to continue supporting local businesses in our community by shopping online, purchasing gift cards or ordering takeout and food delivery services.I also want to recognize all of the frontline healthcare workers for their incredible caring response and for putting our health and wellbeing first. In addition, thanks go to all of our community members that are supporting their neighbours and our vulnerable populations during this time. Whether it be getting groceries, or simply checking in with a phone call or email. We may not be able to come together in person, but in Milton, we will always support each other.
